Depression & Low Mood

When You Don’t Feel Like Yourself

Depression does not always look like sadness.

Sometimes it feels like exhaustion, irritability, disconnection, lack of motivation, or simply going through the motions. You may still be showing up to school, work, relationships, and responsibilities while quietly feeling empty, overwhelmed, or unlike yourself.

For teens, young adults, and adults, depression and persistent low mood can affect confidence, relationships, sleep, motivation, concentration, and the ability to enjoy things that once felt meaningful.

At One Mindset Go, we provide a supportive space to understand what you are experiencing, recognize the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and begin taking manageable steps toward feeling more connected and engaged in your life.

Depression Can Look Different for Everyone

You or your child may be experiencing:

  • Persistent sadness or low mood

  • Feeling empty, numb, or disconnected

  • Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed

  • Low motivation or difficulty getting started

  • Changes in sleep

  • Changes in appetite

  • Irritability or frustration

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling tired even after resting

  • Withdrawing from friends or family

  • Declining school or work performance

  • Low self-esteem or excessive self-criticism

  • Feelings of hopelessness

  • Difficulty seeing a positive future

Not everyone experiencing depression will have all of these symptoms, and sometimes the changes happen gradually.

You do not need to wait until things feel unbearable before reaching out for support.

Helping Teens With Depression & Low Mood

Depression in teenagers can be easy to miss.

A teen may not say, “I feel depressed.” Instead, parents may notice more isolation, irritability, sleeping excessively, declining grades, loss of motivation, changes in friendships, or less interest in activities they once enjoyed.

Some teens may seem angry rather than sad. Others continue doing everything expected of them while struggling privately.

Therapy gives teens a space where they can speak openly without feeling pressured to have the right answers.

We help teens better understand their emotions, identify what may be contributing to how they feel, develop healthier coping strategies, and gradually reconnect with the parts of life that matter to them.

When appropriate, we also work with parents to help them understand what their teen may be experiencing and how to provide support without creating additional pressure or conflict.

Depression in Young Adults & Adults

Low mood can develop during periods of change, loss, stress, loneliness, relationship difficulties, burnout, or uncertainty about the future.

Sometimes there is an obvious reason.

Sometimes there isn't.

Young adulthood in particular can bring enormous pressure around college, career choices, independence, relationships, identity, finances, and figuring out what life is “supposed” to look like.

Adults may experience similar struggles while managing careers, parenting, relationships, family responsibilities, or major life transitions.

Therapy can provide space to slow down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and begin making changes that feel realistic rather than overwhelming.

How Therapy Can Help

At One Mindset Go, therapy is collaborative, supportive, and practical.

Depending on your needs, we may work on:

  • Understanding emotional patterns and triggers

  • Rebuilding motivation

  • Challenging negative or self-critical thinking

  • Developing healthier coping strategies

  • Improving emotional regulation

  • Building confidence and self-esteem

  • Creating realistic routines and goals

  • Improving communication and relationships

  • Reducing isolation

  • Managing school, work, or family stress

  • Processing difficult life experiences or transitions

  • Reconnecting with activities, relationships, and goals that feel meaningful

We use evidence-informed approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy while tailoring treatment to the individual.

Therapy is not about forcing positivity or telling someone to “look on the bright side.”

It is about understanding what you are experiencing, developing tools that fit your life, and taking realistic steps toward meaningful change.

Support for Parents

It can be difficult to know what to do when your child seems withdrawn, unmotivated, or different from themselves.

Parents often wonder:

“Is this normal teenage behavior or something more?”

“Should I give them space or keep pushing?”

“Why don't they want to do anything anymore?”

“How do I help without making them shut down?”

You do not have to figure it out alone.

Our family-focused services and Parenting Lab provide additional support for parents who want practical strategies for communicating with their child, supporting emotional health, and maintaining healthy boundaries at home.

Small Steps Can Still Be Meaningful

When someone is experiencing depression or persistent low mood, even small things can feel difficult.

Change does not have to happen all at once.

Therapy can help you begin understanding what you are experiencing, identify where change is possible, and gradually rebuild connection, confidence, motivation, and hope.

You do not need to know exactly what is wrong or how to fix it before reaching out.

Sometimes the first step is simply having a conversation.
